Laerdal was founded in 1940 as a company that published children's books and made toys for the purpose of "childhood joy." The pioneering work in the field of soft plastic was later used to make the first manikin for CPR training, which changed the direction of the company. Today, Laerdal is committed to its mission of 'helping lives red' by improving resuscitation, patient care and international health initiatives. Laerdal products and programs are used around the world by volunteer organizations, educational institutions, hospitals and defense.
